Andy Grove's HDR Still a Success Story?

(see Fortune magazine, 1995)

Kenneth Fox wrote:

This is my first posting so bear with me. I am 68, diagnosed in September, did all of my homework and I'm down to seeds-HDR or permanent implant? Both tell me that I am a candidate. I like the strategy of HDR for all the reasons that I have read in these postings. The clincher for me, as for many, was the excellent article by Andy Grove in Fortune in 1995. Logic that really appealed to me. Then last week I was at a PC support group meeting and mentioned my choice and I was exposed to a rumor. (I dislike rumors but can't always ignore them.) This rumor came from a member, who acquired it from his urologist and it is to the effect that Andy Grove regrets having had HDR because of later problems. We all have a right to our privacy but when one publishes a personal account, some of that privacy is lost and I wonder if anyone knows if indeed Andy Grove's experience is still considered a success story.

Hi Ken:

My good friend David Ederer, who spoke with Andy at Capcure's annual research gathering just two months ago, assured me that Andy is indeed still a success story and very happy about his selection of tx. of HDR with Mate.

I also was treated by Mate, however, it has only been since Nov. 4th and so far I am very pleased. Am presently on my way to my 9th EBRT tomorrow. So far, everything is going along just fine. Just a little more tired than I was on CHB alone.

I received this in response to my query and this was good enough for me. I am on my way to start the CHB this morning.

I have had several confirmations from others about the treatment and this "rumor" was my only hesitation.

Good luck!

Ken
