A "new" Hyperthermia Treatment for BPHHyperthermia treatments have been used in Germany and Mexico for many years, unfortunately with only mixed success. Side effects have been permanently damaging in too many cases. I cannot recommend Hyperthermia in general or the following new system. Having seen myself and now 1000s of others heal their BPH on my program, with only very positive side effects, Hyperthermia seems a risky band aid at best, particularly considering the need for retreatments. Why not solve the problem permanently and naturally, without risk?Targis (Manufacturer's version)A new device for non-surgical, anesthesia-free treatment of an enlarged prostate (a condition called Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH) has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The device, developed by Urologix, Inc., will be launched under the brand name TargisD4 system. The disease typically occurs in men over 50 and is characterized by troublesome symptoms that affect quality of life, such as the sudden urgency to urinate and increased frequency of urination. BPH is a non-cancerous disease caused by prostate cells that grow and compress the urethra, restricting the flow of urine. The prostate is a walnut-shaped gland that surrounds the male urethra. "The Targis system represents a completely new microwave technology, because of its unique ability to target heat delivery into the confines of the prostate, while maintaining maximum patient comfort during the procedure," said urologist Thayne Larson, M.D., at the Mayo Clinic, the first U.S. clinical investigation site for this new treatment. "We are now able to destroy the diseased tissue while preserving healthy tissue. This gives us an effective, durable treatment that can be delivered in an outpatient treatment room as truly anesthesia-free therapy." The one-hour Targis procedure is performed by a urologist who inserts a flexible treatment catheter into the urethra. A patented microwave antenna inside the catheter delivers precisely targeted microwave energy, which creates high temperatures and destroys the diseased prostate tissue. Simultaneously, the catheter also cools and protects the adjacent urethra and healthy tissue, thereby minimizing discomfort, complications and recovery time. Targis therapy demonstrated durable relief from the symptoms of BPH over a three-year period for most patients, according to a new study conducted by University of Manitoba urologist Ernest Ramsay, M.D. Only a small number of Targis patients required retreatment within three years after receiving the therapy, Ramsay indicated at the recent meeting of the Canadian Urological Association. A separate clinical study at five U.S. sites concluded the Targis system effectively treats BPH in a truly anesthesia-free procedure that can be performed on all patients in an office or clinic setting, according to lead researcher Robert Mayer, M.D., a urologist at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Research has shown that minimal short-term complications and no long-term complications such as impotence or incontinence are associated with the Targis system. The Targis system has undergone clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic and 17 other clinical sites worldwide. The system has previously received regulatory approval in Canada, Japan and the European Union. An estimated 6 million Americans and 17 million men in other countries have BPH symptoms serious enough to warrant medical treatment. Any question regarding a medical diagnosis, treatment, referral, drug availability or pricing should be directed to either a licensed physician or to the product's manufacturer . |
